Match Play
Match play will be held in the spring and fall. It is independent of any other tournament format. This style of tournament is open to the first golfers that choose to join. This style of tournament is open to the Match Play leader.
Rules:
$20 gets you in for the entire tournament. Win the first match to break even.
Matches are heads up, and competition follows a bracket. Win you move forward in the bracket and will play another winner, lose you are out and get to hear about the rest of the tournament from the winners.
Matches can be played simultaneously along with normal Weekly Sweeps tournaments and even outside of club competitions. Play dates/times are decided upon by the players in the match.
Full course handicaps (CH) are used from the date played, and the lower golfer's CH is subtracted from the higher golfer's CH to determine the number of pops/strokes given to the higher handicap golfer. These strokes are distributed to the hardest holes on the course defined by the score card. Both golfers in the match should keep their own scorecard separate from the sweeps scorecard. Verify with your opponent often; it becomes difficult if someone loses track.
Scoring is simple. If you win a hole your score is +1 if you lose a hole your score is -1, if you tie/half the hole there is no score. When your score is 0 it is known as "All Square". You/your opponent are dormie when the number of holes left equals the number scores you are behind. You have lost/won x with y holes to go: where x is the number of scores behind with y holes left to play
If your match is not decided after 18 holes, the golfers keep playing. 2 We often allow chopping the money for champion/runner-up; that is not available anymore. The tournament needs to be played out.
This is not a "ready golf" format. Although you should always be ready to play when it is your turn.
a. Flip a tee to find who has honors on the first hole. After this, honors to the tee change when a hole is won.
b. The golfer further from the hole (whether on the green or not) must go first. The golfer hitting later has an advantage because they know the importance of the next shot. Feel free to give up this advantage and hit out of order, but only if you are penalizing yourself.
c. A golfer can concede a hole at any point. If you have conceded or given up on the hole, but you are participating in the sweeps tournament, you still have to complete the hole.
If the player count is not 2 exponential, some may have to win a play-in match. Golfers will randomly draw golfers for the bracket positions.
